Phase One – Registration Night – a night in January where all parents and students are invited to the high school to receive registration material.   Tables with information about various organizations and elective classes are set up for display.  A speaker talks to both students and parents about high school and its importance.

Parental Involvement – how can the high school encourage more involvement by parents? 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Phase Two – Spring Visit – teachers come to the middle school and visit with the students.  the students have an opportunity to ask questions or express concerns that they might have.  The students also are given more information regarding extra-curricular activities that are available at the high school.  Students set academic and social goals as to what they would like to accomplish in high school.

Phase Three – Zero Day – freshmen students spend the first half-day of school at FHS without any upperclassmen.  The students are placed in groups and given a tour around the school building by a teacher.  They also have time to work with their locker and learn the combination.  It is a day that they can become familiar with the building without having the upperclassmen around.

Phase Four – Freshmen Year

 

S.W.i.M. Class- students are enrolled in this class their entire freshmen year.  They work on social and academic issues that occur.  They also spend time exploring careers and college choices.

Zero Advisory- students are required to attend this advisory period if they don’t have an assignment completed.  All freshmen must complete all assignments.

Thursday Meetings- freshmen teachers meet every Thursday to review the academic, attendance and behavioral status of students.  This time is also used to celebrate successes and to voice concerns.

Incentives –

Quarter trips - students are given trips at the end of each quarter based on criteria that is outlined for them

 

 

Coupons – students are given $2 coupons for the lunch room or concession stand based on weekly improvement, doing a good deed, consistently doing well, etc.
